Miss Angelsmile Collaboration

When was the last time you went out of your comfort zone and when you did, how did it feel? As a creative going out of your comfort zone is imperative to the flow of new ideas. And not only as a creative but as a person in general. We need to be uncomfortable to grow, we need to be challenged to innovate. But the truth is that we don’t often get the opportunity to use our imagination to create something new. We get bogged down with paying work and the day to day running of things. We follow briefs from clients or cater to their preference and make someone else’s vision come to life. Although this has a very important place, its a real treat to be given creative license and to be free from restraint. This photo shoot allowed us to do just that’s. I hope you enjoy this series of images as much as we enjoyed creating them.

We were brought together by the wonderful Wambui Kibui of miss angel smile for her project #missangelsmilecollaberations that would bring women creatives together to create art for the sake of art. She created four stunning masterpieces to be worn by the muses.

We had two fabulous muses who inspire and reign in their fields. Susan Wong and Sharon Mundia. We were tasked with the challenge to make them look nothing like themselves. To push them from their comfort zones and highlight their beauty in ways the public doesn’t usually see them.

I worked along side a fabulous and proficient makeup artist Mdeizi. She created Sharon’s beautiful looks while I created Susan’s.

To top it all off our looks were photographed by the sought after photographer Lyra Aoko who captured their power so perfectly, I was able to create the hair looks as well. Inspired by pulling back the comforting masks we usually hide behind. I pulled the hair slick back to highlight their bone structure and give their beautiful features and the editorial makeup center stage. The extreme length also evokes power and confidence.
